I’VE BEEN CURATING ARTIFACT FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS, CONSIDERING ALL I WANT MY BRAND TO REFLECT, WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO ME & WHAT IT IS I WANT TO EXPRESS. IN JANUARY 2025, I HAD THE CHANCE TO MOVE TO COPENHAGEN FOR A SEMESTER ABORAD. I LET GO OF MY APARTMENT IN TORONTO AND MOVED TO DENMARK WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT. I SPENT 6 MONTHS LIVING, EXPLORING AND EXPERIENCING COPENHAGEN, USING EVERYTHING FROM SCANDINAVIAN STREET STYLE TO DIRTY DISHES AS INSPIRATION FOR MY BRAND.
I FOUND MEANING IN ARTIFACT, IN WHAT IT IS TO BE HUMAN AND TO BE TOUCHED BY ALL ITEMS OF INSPIRATION. I SPENT MUCH OF MY TIME AT FLEA MARKETS AND MUSEUMS, LEARNING THROUGH THE OBJECTS OF THE PAST THAT WERE ON DISPLAY. THESE OBJECTS SERVE AS A TRUE PRESERVATION OF A COUNTRY’S HISTORY, THEY REPRESENT WHAT CAME BEFORE, THEY ARE FUNCTIONALITY, DESIGN, UTILITY. THESE OBJECTS ILLUSTRATE A STORY ABOUT WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE WHEN THIS OBJECT WAS CREATED, WHY IT WAS CREATED AND FOR WHAT PURPOSE IT MAY HAVE SERVED.
I FOUND MYSELF SO DEEPLY INVESTED IN ARTIFACTS OF THE PAST, BUT ALSO IN ARTIFACTS OF MY OWN. THE INSPIRATION I FOUND IN MY REFRIGERATOR THROUGH THE FOOD THAT INSPIRES ME, OR THE ARTIFACT THAT SITS DIRTY IN MY KITCHEN SINK. ARTIFACTS AND INSPIRATION ARE EVERYWHERE AND I’VE SPENT THE LAST YEAR CURATING WHAT ARTIFACTS HAVE INFLUENCED ME MOST. EVERYTHING CAN BE AN ARTIFACT AND I WANT MY BRAND TO REFLECT THE ARTIFACTS THAT HAVE MOST DEEPLY ENRICHED MY PERSON AND MY DESIGNS. I AM ALL THAT I AM BECAUSE OF THOSE AROUND ME, THE THINGS, THE PEOPLE, THE PLACES.
ARTIFACTS AS PART OF THE BODY: THE FRECKLES ON MY SKIN ARE ARTIFACTS OF THE SUN, THE SHAPE OF MY TEETH ARE THE ARTIFACTS OF WHAT I’VE EATEN. THESE CHARACTERISTICS ALL COME TOGETHER TO TELL A STORY, ARTIFACTS ARE RELATIONAL.
